I just moved in this Nov. 10th,1998

I'm 21 years old, from Texas, USA.
I am a college student at Southern Methodist University.
I am one of five children from two loving parents, Lee and Dianne Clifton.
My siblings are: Donovan Shane, 09/26/76,
Melissa Skye, 10/09/79,
Michael Seth, 12/28/80,
and Merietta Shiloh, 09/25/83.

They all live about 30 minutes away from me, except
for Donovan. He lives in Florida with my mother's
mother. We lovingly call her "Mema."

Please see my resume online: http://www.myfreeoffice.com/melanieclifton
I began a new job today at Southland Corporation.
I feel I am going to really enjoy it. The people
I've met seem very nice. The job should offer me a
lot more opportunity to work with computers in the
workplace, and use the financial analysis I have
been studying at school. I am looking forward to see
how everything goes.

Are You Interested?
My interests:
  • Art and Artists
  • Books/Magazines--I love to read. With school though, I feel I never have enough time to read for pleasure.
  • Cars/Motor Racing--I actually restored my own car. It is a 1980 Z28 Camaro. I did all the body work and paint job myself via a paint and body class at my high school. Along with my father, I refurbished the interior; and with the help of several mechanics shops, I had a new engine put in and my tranny rebuilt.
  • Comedy--You're in if you can make me laugh!
  • Computers/Technology--If only I had all day to sit around and play on the computer......
  • Conservation/Environment--I'll do what I can in the time that I have so that others may enjoy what I do.
  • Counterculture--My middle name is Fairlight. I always felt that I was born a little late....My parents have always reminisced with me about the sixties and seventies and I feel I have a grasp of what went on and how people felt, as much as one can for not living the experience. I'd like to say thank you to all the musicians who created the magic that fills many of my CDs. I took an English class concentrating on the sixties last summer. It was taught by Royce Murcheson at Richland College (also in Dallas, Texas). It was a great course! I learned more about the Civil Rights Movement than I ever knew before, and feel I can much more understand the sixties and seventies as a whole because of it.
  • Fantasy/Role Playing--I am playing a small part in the school's production of "Soapdish" right now. We perform Nov. 20th, 21st, and 22nd 1998. It was originally a movie starring Sally Field. Very funny, I recommend viewing it.
  • Fashion--Who's in? Who's out? I love to keep track of what is going on. As soon as I have tons of money, I'll be dressing like a supermodel, too. (The classy business-looking women models, that is)
  • Health/Fitness--Okay, I could lose a few pounds, too. I'm into the more active forms of exercising, though. I tried weightlifting for awhile (much better results than I had anticipated) but eventually quit because my boyfriend works out at home. Lame, I know, but I spend most of my time with him and he doesn't like to go to gyms. I don't like to work out at home, so I'm kind of in limbo. I get my exercise by rollerblading (you know, on the 1/2 pipes? It's hard to get people to do that with me.) So I get the exercise where I can. I love to dance, and count going to clubs as a workout. (Do you think that counts?)
  • Music: Classical and Opera--I love music! I love all different kinds of music and am always seeking to be exposed to new groups and types of music. I love ska, classic rock, and tons of others not listed. My parents definately gave me the appreciation because they are so knowledgable themselves. They have introduced me to many of my favorites, and continue to do so, though they've been doing it over 20 years! They're an endless resourse. I am beginning to find that many people are, though.
  • Music: Country
  • Music: Dance Music
  • Music: Folk
  • Music: Latin, Reggae, World
  • Music: Rock and Pop
  • Music: Techno, Electronic
  • Natural Sciences--I am a very curious person, always wanting to know why? and how? Life sciences intrigue me. I did not decide to major in any sciences, but I would enjoy it if I did.
  • News/Current Events--Wall Street Journal rules! If I have no time for anything else in the day, I take the time to read the front page of Wall Street. I subscribed for an Economics class last year, and am addicted. I get the email updates as well. They help me keep track of the stock market, etc. when I don't have any time to read at all.
  • Personal Finance/Investment--I love finance and am learning more every day. I want to know how to invest wisely with huge returns. (Who doesn't?) Hopefully someday soon I will be investing for my own profit instead of advising the allocation of others' assets. Just waiting until I finish school and establish myself in the business community.....
  • Philosophy--Just one question: What is virtue?
  • Photography--I love to take pictures of everyone and to have pictures taken of me. I think I have a better eye than most of my friends because I flatter them in pictures, while the pictures of me turn out...not so good. That's got to be the skill of the one behind the camera, right?
  • Politics--If only there were time...I'd make a great President. Just kidding, I have no political aspirations at the time. Though there are many laws and policies that I would like to change, I'll do what I can through voting for now. I am considering entering law school in a few years, who knows where that might lead me?
  • Pubs and Clubs--I enjoy hanging out at the places here in Dallas. My friends and I spend most of our time on lower Greenville, but also frequent Deep Ellum. There are several great places around, and never a lack of something to do. Southern Methodist University is conveniently located just minutes away from lower Greenville, one of the "party scenes" of Dallas.
  • Religion--I was raised Baptist, and know I am Christian, but am in the "searching" phase, as I call it. I am questioning many beliefs others hold, and my own. I am experiencing different religions vicariously through my friends, and learning as much as I can. I like to think of myself as open minded, though many of my values are deep-set and I do not budge from them.
  • School/College--SMU! SMU!
  • Shopping--I am female, watch me shop.
  • Socialising--Not entirely codependent, Melanie prefers hanging out with her boyfriend, Jeff, to almost anything else in the world. A close second is spending time with her family and friends. School is in there somewhere, then work and other interests...
  • Sports: Sailing/Water Sports--I just began sailing this semester. It is great! I love hiking! Sailing is such a blast. I feel so peaceful out on the water. We (the SMU sailing club and team) sail at White Rock Lake, in Dallas, Texas. The people in the club are all really great, and I am learning a lot. I just went and got some foul weather gear a few days ago. I got the jumpsuit part, but not the jacket. I may just get the school jacket. I wait all week for Fridays to get here, so that I can go out on the water. No matter who I sail with, I absolutely love to go out. I get the competitive urge as well, and will begin racing soon. The Corinthian Sailing Club at White Rock is one of the best ones around. At the club we have two of the top 5 guys in America (in which type of sailing I forget). They are helping to train our racing team. Kelley and Richard are their names, and they are really great. I am learning a lot and loving every minute of it!
  • Sports: Skiing, Snowboarding, Skating--I've only been snowboarding once. Despite my hip-to-knee bruise, I loved it! It was such a rush! Jeff and our friends are all planning another trip this year, and we'll see how everything turns out....
  • Sports: Soccer--I'm not playing right now, but if I had time I would. I love Soccer. (I know, I love everything) I was never really "good" at it really. I was the little kid with heart. Even in high school. :) I'll jump in for a game anytime and have fun whether we win or lose, though I prefer the first one.
  • Travel--I'll go anywhere, if the ticket is provided :)
  • Web Publishing/Design--I love the Web. I'd play on it all day if I could. I think I pick it up very easily, and I have a blast doing it. Check out the page I made for my friend Chuck Nelson. He died recently (August 27, 1998)and I put this page together as a memorial for him. I wanted more people to send me in their memories, but am not having much luck so far. http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/Tidepool/9963
